THE STORY SO FAR
FROM THE FOUNDER

In 2021, myself & Frank, who was then one years old moved into our flat just a stones throw from west Jesmond metro station. At this time, I was making an exit from Scream for Pizza the first hospitality business which I co founded in 2014.

For a long time I had been curious about this particular space and wondered why it had been vacant for so long. A series of serendipitous events lead to a viewing. The site with its 4 rooms was pretty dilapidated and would require a lot of time and money and yet, I could see that it was pulsating with potential.

Once a British Rail station and then for many years Richard Grainger wine merchants, you could feel that a lot of life had been lived and memories made behind the crumbling walls. I had no choice to compete for the lease.

After many months of extreme renovation we were ready to open the cafe by late August 2025. Around this time my son now 4 refused to dress as anything but a superhero. I called him Awesome Frank. It seemed  fitting name for the place. A new chapter for us and for a building at the heart of our community.

The daytime pitstop

Awesome Frank’s cafe nestled within the corner of west Jesmond metro station serves up speciality coffees, matchas and sandwiches daily. Designed for everything from a quick coffee and home made cake enroute to work to a leisurely breakfast with friends. For those in a hurry, our platform hatch (coming soon) enables you to grab your coffee, breakfast or lunch without even leaving the station. Everything is possible at Awesome Frank’s cafe.

Frank’s mini bar

The little bar with a big secret. Behind an unassuming door in the cafe, hides Frank’s mini bar. It is just that. A tiny retro cocktail bar with just 12 seats.


Intimate, hedonistic, playful and unexpected. A speakeasy (ish) atmosphere awaits.


A special hideaway for evening drinks and also available for private hire, supper clubs & classes.

For the VIP’s

This is a ‘when you know you’  know’ experience that you’ll want to keep all to yourself.
